Project VI

This iconic house does not go unnoticed when driving down Saskatchewan Crescent West. We renovated the exterior with materials that kept the historic aesthetic of the 100-year-old house.

Project Details

In 2016, our goal (challenge) was to replicate the traditional look of the old wooden columns, capitals, bases, and railings using modern materials. This project needed to take place quickly as the old materials were cracking and rotting, becoming a safety concern for the 100-year-old house. The homeowner wanted to ensure the final solution would require minimal maintenance as the existing wood columns had been a maintenance challenge for numerous years.

We removed the columns, demolished the front wood porch, and installed concrete piles and a suspended concrete platform that now carries all 720 pounds of the 19-foot tall columns. Coming all the way from Georgia, the new 19 foot fibre composite columns will last for another 100+ years. We eliminated all wood, and went with a limestone tread for the stairs and a thin limestone tile for the landing. The aesthetic of this historic house that Saskatoon knows and loves was maintained, and now will stand structurally sound for many years to come.

Before Photos

In 2020, we were welcomed back to this home to renovate the 100-year-old basement to upgrade it with some modern-day comforts making it a useable hangout space for the family. Working with the curved turrets in the basement foundation, we refinished the walls and ceilings and installed a fireplace with custom millwork creating one of the favorite spaces in the home.
